Sleep Apnea Can Kill
Have you ever had to pull off the road to take a nap in the middle of the day? If your sleep apnea is severe, you can quite likely kill others because of it. Imagine driving while drowsy. Sleep apnea is a dangerous threat to yourself and others.
The biggest warning sign of sleep apnea is snoring. The same sleep conditions that result in snoring result in sleep apnea. The muscles in the air passages relax, causing the soft palate at the base of the tongue to obstruct the airway. This obstruction results in an interruption in breathing while a sufferer sleeps. These interruptions in breathing, or apneas, can continue from five seconds to a minute. When breathing recommences, the result is a snore. Frighteningly, a person with sleep apnea may actually stop breathing anywhere from five to one hundred times whilst asleep. It is no wonder why people with sleep apnea are tired.
